Seminar Description:
We at Life Is Art get TONS of question asking us how to get one’s work introduced to a gallery. We have recruited Reed V. Horth to speak on that issue. Reed will speak about how to approach a gallery and prepare your portfolio to best showcase your work. How best to introduce yourself to the gallerist. How to make a good impression. What the galleries are looking for, in terms of presentation.

Reed has worked as a gallerist and art dealer for many years and will give you some insight into that side of the business so you can better present yourself and your work.

The night will open with some time for socializing and networking with complimentary beverages and bites provided by Life Is Art. After the seminar, there will be time for further specific questions and more networking. This is a GREAT chance to come meet other working artists and arts professionals from around the area.

Life Is Art – Soul Of Miami – Tony Major Events
presents
River Of Art
showcase, networker, fundraiser
party, art, music, fashion, performance and more!
Wednesday, August 11, 6:30pm
Bleu Moon Cafe
1717 N. Bayshore Drive, 2nd Floor

Live Music by The State Of
Art by Gustavo Ramirez and Yamel Molerio
Live performance by Kikimora

The River Of Art is a wonderful evening of creativity brought to you by Life Is Art, Soul Of Miami and Tony Major Events. Each Wednesday, we feature visual art, music, fashion, performance and more chosen from our local south Florida arts community. Full bar and excellent food are there for your enjoyment, as well. Come by and enjoy an atmosphere of fun and excitement. PLUS, A PORTION OF THE SALES FROM THE EVENING GOES TO SUPPORT THE ARTS IN SOUTH FLORIDA.

THE STATE OF
www.thestateofmusic.com
The State Of is the product of the marriage between Steph Taylor’s edgy piano/synth playing and Nabedi Osorio’s electronic-like live drumming. Their dark pop sensibility is born out of their hometown of Miami, FL and is reminiscent of artists ranging from the Bjork and the Eurythmics to Radiohead and the Cure. Taylor’s style of playing is often percussive and dark where Osorio’s drumming is melodic and when coupled, they create a dynamic sound larger than what’s expected out of two people.

“The State Of exemplifies that oxymoronic moment when something sparse becomes atmospheric – like the most electronic form of analog, or vice versa” -Broward New Times
“South Florida duo the State Of likes to keep pop tunes dark but upbeat. The ladies crank eerily pretty arrangements on the keys and back them with big, electroniclike live drums for a Tori Amos meets LCD Soundsystem effect.” -Tampa Bay Times
“The massive appeal of the State Of comes simply from variety” -Miami New Times

GUSTAVO RAMIREZ
www.facebook.com/pages/Gustavo-Ramirez/114359381795
I’m a 35 year old, mostly self taught visual artist (painter). I grew up in Orlando, Fl. and moved to Miami in 2001. My work mostly expresses and explores my unconscious mind in mostly automatic abstract techniques. I also like to make imagined and real portraits of people.

YAMEL MOLERIO
www.yamelmolerio.com
I was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. I came to the U.S. in 1980 at the age of 9 during the Mariel boatlift. Since I could remember I’ve always been into art. As a kid, I remember being into drawing cartoons and even drawing anatomical posters for my mom who was a biology teacher. In high school, I started doing graffiti with my friends and it became a way of life during the late eighties. After I got into college I learned about contemporary artists, working with other media and art history. I also learned about adding concept and meaning to a work of art.
In my artwork, I deal with issues important to me by being comical at times instead of in your face political. I reject art styles or working in a specific style. I use imagery that ranges from cartoons to realistic portraiture. I want the message of the piece to be the most important thing. I want the viewer at first to be drawn to the piece and then to question why he/she was attracted to it. Maybe with a dialogue between the viewer and the artwork, the viewer will realize that popular culture has programmed us to think a certain way.

Hello Everyone!

Due to feedback we have been receiving from the artistic community, we have decided to expand our Creative Connections educational program. For our next event, we are going to offer an in-depth workshop on using social media and the internet to brand and promote yourself and your work. This is primarily targeted at artists, but anyone is welcome.

The workshop is being taught by a professional marketing expert, Patrick Barbanes. This is for anyone of any skill level, beginners to experienced internet user. He will go over all the various social media networks and strategies in detail. This is a hands-on workshop and you are welcome to bring your laptops (but you do not need one). Wifi is available.

The event is August 21 from 12:00noon until 5:00pm. The workshop starts promptly at 1:00pm and runs until 4:00pm with mingling and individual questions before and after. GAB Studio has generously provided their space to host. Wine, refreshments and snacks will be served.

Because of the in-depth nature of this workshop, we do have to charge a little bit to help cover our costs. The fee is only $35.00 per person. Space is limited due to the size of the venue, so please purchase your tickets soon to assure your space. RSVP here.

Please tell any friends you know that might be interested, particularly those that may not hear about it online. This is really going to be valuable in your quest to become successful at your art. The internet and social media is where the world is heading and is something we all need to know and understand. Your ability to utilize it to your fullest benefit can have a large and significant impact on your success.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
James Echols

SEMINAR: “Do-It-Yourself: Using Video to Gain Exposure and Build Community,” with video marketing expert Jessica Kizorek.

Video cameras are cheaper and more integrated in daily life than ever before. Just as digital photos have proliferated the way we communicate, video will reach a huge saturation rate in 2010.

Learn how to use the technology at your finger tips to create video communications that impact and build relationship with your target market. Watch the coolest gadgets in action and see successful case studies that increased sales by employing online video.

Video increases response rates when you learn how to use it to your advantage. YouTube has exploded as an online portal, but other social media platforms – Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Ning — make it easier than ever to send and receive videos through the Internet.

The seminar is free for both members and nonmembers; RSVP to enjoy a free drink and appetizers.
