b2 miami downtown, the first hotel of the new b2 brand by B Hotels & Resorts®, is inviting amateur and professional photographers to participate in the “Capturing Miami – you should b2! Photography Contest” for the chance to win $1,000 in cash, complimentary hotel stays and the opportunity to be showcased in the new hotel, as well as The Wolfsonian-Florida International University’s museum. The newest lifestyle hotel to be introduced in the downtown area beginning 2013, b2 miami downtown will utilize destination-inspired images adorning all 243 guestrooms, common areas and meeting spaces to incorporate the essence of Miami property-wide.

Contributing to Miami’s growing art scene, the b2 miami downtown hotel has partnered with The Wolfsonian-Florida International University to host the “Capturing Miami- You Should b2! Photography Contest,” giving aspiring artists the opportunity for exposure within the hotel and museum. The new hotel is encouraging contest entrants to submit original photographs capturing what they feel best reflect Miami’s top attractions, personality and style. The photo contest offers an outlet for the artistically-inclined to creatively express their vision of the city. The hotel will encapsulate photographs of Miami’s hidden gems, underground scenes and iconic images that characterize one of the world’s hottest destinations recognized for its international flair, celebrated nightlife and arts and entertainment districts.

The “Capturing Miami – you should b2! Photography Contest” kicks off November 1, 2012 and closes December 31, 2012. Images must be submitted in a digital format (JPEG, JPG or TIFF) and at least 10800 x 7200 pixels at 300 dpi resolution. A panel of judges including talented art directors and curators from The Wolfsonian, and b2 miami downtown, will announce the top 20 finalists on January 9, 2013. Images will then be posted on the b2 miami downtown Facebook page from January 22 to February 8, 2013, where fans can “like,” or vote, for the photograph they feel is most symbolic of Miami. The top three winners will be unveiled at a private VIP cocktail reception in late February and will receive:

One (1) Grand Prize: $1,000, a five-night stay at b2 miami downtown* and their winning image exhibited in the hotel lobby.
One (1) Second Prize: $500, a three-night stay at b2 miami downtown* and their winning image exhibited in the hotel lobby or other common area.
One (1) Third Prize: a two-night stay at b2 miami downtown* and their winning image exhibited in the hotel lobby or other common area.

Select images from the top 20 finalists will be showcased in The Wolfsonian museum and every image submitted throughout the contest will have the chance to be installed in b2 miami’s guestrooms and public spaces.

ARTLURKER, a Miami based online publication for the contemporary arts, is proud to announce it is accepting submissions for the third year of the Miami Writer’s Prize, an annual prize that aims to encourage residents of Miami to write about contemporary art and foster accountability for contemporary art discourse through reinforcement of the blogging format.

Eligible entrants may submit one original review of a recent art-related event. The winner, in addition to having their entry published on ARTLURKER.com, will receive an honorary stipend of $800 dollars in return for an eight-post placement as a Guest Blogger on ARTLURKER.com.

This year’s prize is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and artist Carlos Betancourt, sponsored by Locust Projects and judged by a panel of preeminent writers/web publishers – Hrag Vartanian (HYPERALLERGIC), Hunter Braithwaite (THEREISNOTHERE), Noah Becker (WHITEHOT MAGAZINE) and Paddy Johnson (ARTFAGCITY).

The Miami Writer’s Prize 2012 is now open for submissions.

Closing Date is May 4th, 2012.

The winner will be announced via www.artlurker.com on May 18th, 2012.

A soiree in their honor will be held at Locust Projects (3852 North Miami Avenue) on May 24th, 2012.

Prize Requirements:
To qualify, entrants must:
•Be over 18 years of age and reside in Miami Dade county
•Have had no more than three pieces of their art writing published in a print publication (previous online publication, except for on ARTLURKER.com, is permitted)
•Email one previously unpublished review of a recent art related event, approximately 800 words in length to writersprize@artlurker.com

Entries must be submitted:
•As a Word (.doc) attachment
•In English (translations are accepted, but this must be acknowledged)
•Without images

Guest Blogging Requirements:
•Posts must be art related
•Author must have first hand experience if writing a review of a recent exhibition or event

About The Judges:
Noah Becker lives and works in Victoria BC, Canada and New York. He is a contemporary artist, musician, curator, and editor-in-chief of Whitehot Magazine. In 2009, Becker was nominated for the Royal Bank of Canada Painting Prize, which toured his work to Musee D’Art De Montreal. Becker’s work has featured in successful solo and group exhibitions in New York, Switzerland, Canada, and Miami, and most recently included in the exhibitions Plank Road and Hunt & Chase at Salomon Contemporary, 6 Degrees of Separation at Claire Oliver Gallery, and Mie Portraits at Freight + Volume.

Hunter Braithwaite founded the Miami-based contemporary arts website thereisnothere.org in August 2011. In addition to running TINT, he is a regular contributor to artforum.com, Whitehot Magazine, and Asian Art News. Before moving to Miami, he lived in Shanghai and did basically the same thing.

Paddy Johnson is the founding editor of Art Fag City. In addition to her work on the blog, she has been published in New York Magazine, artreview.com, Art in America, The Daily, Print Magazine,Time Out NY, The Reeler, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, The Guardian, New York Press and writes a regular art column for The L Magazine. Paddy lectures widely about art and the Internet at venues including Yale University, Parsons, Rutgers, South by Southwest, and the Whitney Independent Study Program.

Hrag Vartanian is a Brooklyn-based writer, critic, editor and cultural worker. He is the co-founder and editor of Hyperallergic. He tweets a lot (@hragv), reads even more, likes to look at art, doesn’t call his parents enough and his biggest claim to fame is that he was gay married in Toronto to his publisher, which only goes to prove that sleeping with your boss gets you everywhere.

Photos can be emailed (framesusacontest@gmail.com) or brought into Frames USA (6822 sw 40th St Miami, FL 33155). Included with the photo should be the photographer’s name, age, address, phone number and an email address (if delivering in person).

All entries are due before midnight on November 15th, 2011 and voting will be closed on November 30th, 2011.

The contest is open to all genres of photography. From Nature, Pets, Cityscapes and Children to just about anything else you can capture with your camera. Photos must be tasteful! No pornographic or offensive material will be uploaded or entered into the contest. All photos must be original and uploaded by the photographer.

All photos submitted to the contest will be posted on Facebook within 48 hours from the day they are received. Any photos received after the deadline will not be entered. All submitted photos will be judged by the total number of “likes” received before the close of the contest. Contest is open to photographers of all ages and skill levels.

Only one entry per person per household. All gift certificates must be picked up in person at Frames USA within thirty (30) days of the end of the contest (before December 30th, 2011). Winners will be contacted via email no later than December 5th.

The City of Hialeah and the Cultural Affairs Council Presents the Second Annual Photography Contest

All photos entered will be evaluated by a panel of three judges.
The judges are professionals and teachers of photography.
Limit of One submissions per person.
Open to All Ages.

· Awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There will be a reception and awards presentation on Friday, September 30th at 7 PM. The winner will have the option of displaying their piece in the Mayor’s Office for one year.
· The entry submitted must be at least 8 X 10 and ready for hanging. Please fill out the information below and submit with your entry.
· Entries are to be brought to the City of Hialeah’s City Hall, City Clerk’s Office, 501 Palm Avenue, Hialeah, 3rd Floor, and Telephone: (305) 883-5820, between Wednesday September 21st and Monday September 26th. All entries must be at City Hall by 4pm on Monday, September 26th. (Late entries will not be accepted)
· Submissions can be picked up at 20 East 6th Street on October 3rd.
· Do not watermark or place any other distinguishing marks (i.e. name, copyright) on the image. Because the judging is an anonymous affair, an image cannot possess identifiable information.
· NO PHOTOSHOPPING or other digital manipulation. This contest is about photography, not about one’s expertise with a graphical application. This does not apply to photographic techniques contained within a camera’s abilities (i.e. a manual shutter release used at night to capture fireworks or moving traffic). Nor does it apply to CROPPING an image.
· NOTE: photos thought to be outside of the above criteria may be removed from consideration without the entrant being notified.
· Employees, council members or family members associated with the City of Hialeah will not be eligible to compete.
