Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces a Juried Art Competition for the month of October with the theme “The Elements”. A Group exhibition of the top ten finalists will be held online at the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery for the month of November 2011. The theme is the Elements, send us your best interpretation of the theme “The Elements” now!

Awards will be for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places, honorable mentions and special recognitions. All winners will be selected, announced and featured on the Light Space & Time website on November 1, 2011 for a month. Thereafter, the artworks will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives with links to the artist’s websites. There is extensive worldwide publicity for the winners.

The City of Hialeah and the Cultural Affairs Council Presents the Second Annual Photography Contest

All photos entered will be evaluated by a panel of three judges.
The judges are professionals and teachers of photography.
Limit of One submissions per person.

· Awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There will be a reception and awards presentation on Friday, September 30th at 7 PM. The winner will have the option of displaying their piece in the Mayor’s Office for one year.
· The entry submitted must be at least 8 X 10 and ready for hanging. Please fill out the information below and submit with your entry.
· Entries are to be brought to the City of Hialeah’s City Hall, City Clerk’s Office, 501 Palm Avenue, Hialeah, 3rd Floor, and Telephone: (305) 883-5820, between Wednesday September 21st and Monday September 26th. All entries must be at City Hall by 4pm on Monday, September 26th. (Late entries will not be accepted)
· Submissions can be picked up at 20 East 6th Street on October 3rd.
· Do not watermark or place any other distinguishing marks (i.e. name, copyright) on the image. Because the judging is an anonymous affair, an image cannot possess identifiable information.
· NO PHOTOSHOPPING or other digital manipulation. This contest is about photography, not about one’s expertise with a graphical application. This does not apply to photographic techniques contained within a camera’s abilities (i.e. a manual shutter release used at night to capture fireworks or moving traffic). Nor does it apply to CROPPING an image.
· NOTE: photos thought to be outside of the above criteria may be removed from consideration without the entrant being notified.
· Employees, council members or family members associated with the City of Hialeah will not be eligible to compete.

Theme: Internationally known Projects Gallery announces a call to artists for “Square Foot Art Basel Miami.” During this year’s world-acclaimed Art Basel Miami, Projects Gallery will create a mosaic-style wall in its trendy Wynwood Lofts gallery in the Wynwood Arts District of Miami. A minimum of 100 artists will be selected on a first-come basis. Creating a grid comprised of 12”x12” individual spaces with works of all styles and media, Projects Gallery will provide artists an opportunity to be part of the Art Basel Miami art fairs events. This remarkable gathering of international art fairs and renown emerging venues, such as Aqua, Art Miami, Art Now, NADA, Pulse, Red Dot, Scope and numerous others, creates an arts-conscious concentration uniquely found in Miami every year in early December. Miami Beach Community Health Center (MBCHC), a not-for-profit comprehensive health care network established in 1977, is inviting artists to participate in its fourth annual “Through the Eyes of Love” juried art exhibition featuring nationally recognized artist, Barry Gross. This exhibition, to be held at the Miami International University of Art & Design, will offer a way for artists to express the depth of their thoughts and feelings as it relates to HIV/AIDS in honor of World AIDS Day.

Artists can submit for review paintings, sculptures, photographs and fashions to portray how HIV/AIDS has changed the lives of so many around the world. The submission deadline for artists is Tuesday, November 1, 2011.

Held in honor of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, MBCHC’s Through the Eyes of Love will be free and open to the public at Miami International University of Art & Design from Wed., Nov. 30 through Sun., Dec. 4. An opening reception is planned for Tues., Nov. 29 at 6 p.m.

As part of this effort, Miami Beach Community Health Center will also host its commemorative AIDS Memorial Quilt Display on Thu., Dec. 1 to further recognize the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS.

“We have been amazed by the great response to this effort over the past few years with more than 150 artists showing their creative expressions of how HIV/AIDS has affected their lives,” said Kathryn Abbate, CEO of Miami Beach Community Health Center. “As a healthcare provider, we are proud to present this project as an opportunity to promote greater awareness about this global health challenge.”

The exhibition will include select works of art by Barry Gross, who discovers images that visually provide us with positive experiences dealing with the outer world of mankind and the movement inward toward the spirit. Gross recently open a gallery in Fort Lauderdale and his paintings have been exhibited in leading galleries throughout the country.

LegalArt Local Artist Residency: Application Deadline September 2, 2011

Artists: A unique opportunity to live and work in a professional development residency in downtown Miami…Deadline for entries is September 2, 2011

LegalArt, with a generous grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, created the first affordable live/work professional development residency in Miami. LegalArt’s Residency includes seven approximately 600 square foot studios with a communal living room, dining area and kitchen providing a comfortable space for artists to live, work, interact and socialize. The LegalArt building also houses exhibition, lecture and legal counseling spaces, encouraging interaction, and collaboration. In addition to local artists, the Residency also hosts national and international visiting artists, writers, scholars, and curators.

South Florida artists are eligible to apply for the Local Artist Residency. Five local Artists will live and work in the space for 11 1/2 months from February 1, 2012 until January 15, 2013. The subsidized cost of the studios per month is only $450 and includes all utilities and full use of the space. This program is an incubator, designed to help artists get to a new place in their practice. Incubator programming includes goal setting, contract law, copyright and intellectual property law, incorporation, how to cultivate collectors and curators, public speaking, and grant writing.
