Miami: prepare to be wow-ed this December with a new and unique one-of-a-kind arts experience! From December 1-4, in the heart of the Wynwood Art District, you will be introduced to more than 120 of South Florida’s best as well as artists from all around the world. By encompassing almost 5,000 square feet, Multiversal will showcase their best visual and performance works under tented and open-air space in this can’t miss event.

Among our artists, you will find both established and emerging names from around the world. Their media will span fine arts, live art, sculpture, urban art, installations, photography, body painting, fashion and film festivals.

Around the artwork will swirl a vortex of belly dancers, BBOY’s, fire dancers, acrobats, exhibitionists, and extemporaneous theater — all to the rhythm of live and recorded music. Open to the public from Thursday-Sunday for an estimated 49 hours — more than any other scheduled Art Basel production — this will truly be a multiversal human experience.

The show will have a tented space and outdoor exhibit, conveniently located in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood Art District next to the Dorsch Gallery.

One of the best aspects of this show is that all of the money raised stays here in our community. Life Is Art, More Than Art Group and Multiversal Art Group are all dedicated to supporting the arts in south Florida. This sets it apart from many of the other shows.

I would like to talk a bit about our upcoming show during Art Basel week called Multiversal. As you know, we have teamed up with a few other groups to put this together. There are two reasons we did this.

First, we knew that together, we could do a bigger and better show than we could alone. We have joined a great crew to do this. Cassie Williams is an artist and arts entrepreneur. In addition to being a painter, she also produces arts events all over south Florida. She is the founder of Multiversal and produced it the past two years. Laura Forero founded and runs More Than Art Group, a non-profit with a similar mission to ours: help to build and support the arts in south Florida. Joy Taylor is an artist and fashion professional, as well as working with the MLK Project. She is heading up the fashion component. Jose Jacho is the founder of Indiefilmclub and works with the Miami Short Film Festival. He is heading up the film/video component.

Second, one of our goals is to build the community. By teaming up with other groups, we can help them have a better show and grow their own organizations more. This means more benefit for everyone. All of these groups are dedicated to supporting the cultural fabric of our area.

We are very excited about this show. In addition to all of the visual art, we are having fashion shows and music performances every night. There is a full bar and lounge (one of only four full bars in the south Wynwood area). There are performances and installations, as well. It really is going to be multi-sensory, multi-disciplinary extravaganza.

It is taking place right in the middle of the Wynwood district, on 24th Street, just east of NW 2nd Avenue. It is an indoor/outdoor show, with a large tented area, flooring, a stage, runway and full sound and lighting, as well as an outdoor space for installations and performances.

Multiversal is a very inexpensive way to show during Art Basel. Hanging fee for standard sized art is just $150.00 for three pieces, that is $50 per piece. The sales commission is only 20%. Submission fee is $25 per artist, no matter how many pieces you submit. As always, our goal is to make shows accessible to all artists.

The Call For Artists closes at Midnight on November 1st, so you still have time to apply, but do not delay. There are actually TWO different calls.
The first is a regular juried show: http://www.lifeisartfest.org/?p=6301
The second is an unjuried show just for small work: http://www.lifeisartfest.org/?p=6305

In addition, we are accepting filmmakers and video artists, performers, fashion designers, musicians/singers/bands and installation artists. If you are interested, please email art@lifeisartfest.org.

I hope you will join us, both as artists and as art lovers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
James Echols

This is a really cool oportunity to have your work shown through both Sleepless Night and Art Basel Week! The good folks at the LGBT Visitor Center Miami Beach have asked us to help spread the word.

“This Art is So Gay”
LGBT Visitor Center To Host Visual Artist Exhibition Between Sleepless Night And Art Basel Miami Beach

“Call for Entries” Open Now Through October 21

Fall has become the season of the arts in South Florida and to showcase the contributions of LGBT artists to the area’s arts scene, Miami Beach’s LGBT Visitor Center, sponsored by MetLife, will be hosting a visual art exhibition, titled “This Art is So Gay,” that will launch in conjunction with Sleepless Night and conclude during Art Basel Miami Beach. “This Art is So Gay” will run from November 5 through December 5, 2011 at the LGBT Visitor Center, 1130 Washington Avenue, First Floor, Miami Beach. All work on display will be offered for sale to the public with proceeds benefitting the not-for-profit MDGLCC Foundation for its LGBT scholarship program.

So that the exhibition can be truly representative of South Florida’s LGBT talent – both well known and unknown — the Visitor Center is sponsoring a “Call for Entries” to visual artists who would like their works considered for inclusion in the show. Artists must be South Florida based, a member of the LGBT community, and agree to have their exhibition pieces up for sale.

To submit artwork for consideration by the exhibit’s curators, artists should submit a bio or resume, artistic statement, and at least two images representative of their work in jpg or pdf format to Cindy Brown, executive director of the LGBT Visitor Center, via email to cindy@thecenergysolution.com. Deadline for submissions is Friday, October, 21.

“There is an incredible amount of artistic talent in our LGBT community,” said Steve Adkins, chairman of the board of the MDGLCC Foundation. “By spotlighting community artists during world-class events like Sleepless Night and Art Basel, we hope to showcase this talent in front of a global audience of arts patrons and tastemakers.”

In addition to the exhibition, the LGBT Visitor Center will host two receptions where guests can mix and mingle with the exhibition’s artists. The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, November 5, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in conjunction with Sleepless Night. The Closing Reception will be held Sunday, December 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during Art Basel Miami Beach. Both receptions are free and open to the public.

The MDGLCC opened the country’s first-ever Chamber-sponsored LGBT Visitor Center last November. The Center is open to the public five days a week and has been the venue for special events for the MDGLCC, MetLife, Florida Grand Opera, Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and Miami Beach Gay Pride, just to name a few. The LGBT Visitor Center is located in Miami Beach’s Old City Hall at 1130 Washington Avenue, First Floor North, Miami Beach, in the heart of South Beach.

“From its inception almost a year ago, the vision for the LGBT Visitor Center has always been to become a gathering spot for locals and tourists alike,” Brown said. “This art exhibition is the perfect way to host an inclusive activity for everyone while spotlighting the contributions of the LGBT community.”

For more information on the LGBT Visitor Center or the “This Art is So Gay” LGBT Artist Exhibition, contact Cindy Brown at 305-397-8914 or cindy@thecenergysolution.com.

Life Is Art Joins Multiversal for Art Basel Week 2011

The week of Art Basel Miami Beach is arguably the biggest week for contemporary art in the world. It is certainly the biggest art week in the U.S.A. To best support the south Florida art community, Life Is Art has joined forces with KAZILLA of Multiversal Group and Laura Forero More Than Art Group to produce this very exciting art fair.

The Multiversal Art Fair features both established and emerging names from around the world. Their media spans the fine arts including: live art, paintings, urban art, contemporary mediums, sculpture, animation, photography, body painting, film/video and more. Around all of this will swirl a vortex of aerialists, burlesque and belly dancers, exhibitionists, extemporaneous theater, all to the rhythm of live and recorded music – truly a Multiversal human experience.

The fair is preceded by a number of pre-shows scheduled for throughout October and November. The pre-show series serves as a launch pad for the big fair, a vehicle to showcase more south Florida artists, and a fundraiser to build revenue to make Multiversal the biggest and best it can be.

Life Is Art was founded in January of 2009, specifically to help promote and support the south Florida arts. After producing many dozens of events in just a few short years, from networkers to seminars to art fairs, they have joined the biggest art week of the year. By combining efforts with other organizations, Life Is Art plans to provide even more exposure to the south Florida arts scene.

In its first year, over 4,000 visitor came to the grand gala in Miami’s modern district. Over 10,000 people attended second annual Multiversal Art Fair in 2010, in the heart of Wynwood, Miami’s design district. Fashion shows, music, performance and art abounded. For 2011, the team is planning an even larger spectacle.

This year Multiversal encompasses both indoor and outdoor spaces, including a tented exhibition and outdoor vending and performance arena. With the combined efforts of all three groups, this event is truly going to be a sight for all to see.
