The Lunch Box Gallery
310 NW 24th St.
Miami, FL 33127

The Lunch Box Gallery, in collaboration with iPhoneographer Jaime Ferreyros, is pleased to announce the call for submissions for its new show “iPhoneography: Updated Visual Dialogs”. The exhibit will be displayed from March 10th to April 7th, 2012.

For the show, The Lunch Box Gallery is aiming to explore the social phenomenon of iPhoneography as a personal tool globally used to generate visual content, be shared and therefore, communicate. Here, the images many times meticulously conceived, some others more intuitively taken – yet all intentionally post-produced – are intended as mirrors of the user’s everyday life; a visual diary of the individual that can become an open book to their interests, curiosities, ideas, intimacy or even artistic take.

As an enabler for creative communication, iPhoneography has become a new medium for massive dialog, where images taken and edited with the iPhone are openly shared, sometimes instantly and some other times preceded by a complex creative process; regardless, is undeniable that all of these images project a part of the user’s self.
The exhibition “iPhoneography: Updated Visual Dialogs” as a whole will be an integral, heterogeneous and diverse expression of that avalanche of pixels that are being registered and shared in modern times; yet, in this immensity, every picture in the show becomes a window, a glimpse of the iPhoneographer’s vision, sensitivity and everyday life.

“iPhoneography: Updated Visual Dialogs” is inspired by Chase Jarvis famous quote “The Best Camera is the One That’s With You” ™. Prove it!

Eligibility and Restrictions:
These are the general guidelines for the show:

- The call for entries is open to all iPhoneographers, both professionals and amateurs, emerging and established, national and international over 18 years of age.
– Pictures must be taken and edited on the iPhone (not on any other device).
– iPhoneographers can send from 1 to 3 images per submission. You can apply more than once.
– All iPhoneographers will be automatically accepted to be featured in the gallery, joining this collective representation of the massive use of the medium; yet, at least 1 out of 3 photographs by every iPhoneographer will be printed and shown.

Theme:
Open. Send us your best shots! We are open to previous or new works, and they can be observational, conceptual, abstract, figurative, documentary, artistic, curious, sensorial, spontaneous or deeply-thought. Some examples, just to mention some topics, may include: still life, urban experiences, moments, landscapes, portraits, shapes, architecture, people, objects, actions, textures, etc. Yet, we will not accept family photography (meaning the typical “Say cheese!” image), pets photography or self-portraits (unless it’s truly something unique). Be creative! Show us what this imaginative and innovative outlet is all about.

Entry Fees:
A non-refundable entry fee of $15.00 is required for submitting up to 3 JPGs. You can submit more than once. Payment should be solely made via PayPal.

For the full Guidelines, please visit www.thelunchboxgallery.com, and then click on “Call for Entries” tab.

Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places- Arcola Lakes Head Start Center
Click here to apply and for more information.

REQUIREMENTS: Images: 10
Project: Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places (APP) / Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) / Internal Services Department (ISD)
Estimated Art Budget: $70,000
Location: 770 NW 83rd Street, Arcola Lakes, FL
Deadline: February 10, 2012

Eligibility: Open Call to Professional Artists residing in the Miami-Dade County. Applications from architects, landscape architects or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of an artist-led team.

The Miami-Dade County Internal Services Department (ISD), Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) and Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program request qualifications from professional artists to create a site specific installation for the Arcola Lakes Head Start Center. The selected artist will develop an innovative project that merges the public art component with LEED Innovation in Design educational credits.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Internal Services Department
Arcola Lakes Head Start Center
770 NW 83rd Street, Arcola Lakes, FL
The CAHSD Head Start/Early Head Start provides comprehensive child-development services for low-income children and families. The program is open to children from new born through age 5 and provides care and instruction in a classroom setting. The new 16,350 square-foot center will serve 120 preschoolers and employ about 12 teachers and teacher assistants. Modeled after other Head Start facilities, the center will have six classrooms, a conference room, a multi-purpose room, a parent room, offices, a clinic and a kitchen. A light-harvesting atrium will double as an educational rotunda, and programs at the new center will be offered at no cost.

The CAHSD Arcola Head Start building is currently registered for achieving Silver LEED certification with the US Green Building Council. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Some environmental and sustainable achievements include sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design. Artists may download the Environmental and Sustainable Achievements Fact Sheet for the CAHSD Arcola Head Start Facility by clicking the “View Site Details” tab above.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PUBLIC ART
As part of its LEED initiative, the CAHSD Arcola Head Start will incorporate a “green” building education program to educate students, employees and visitors to the Head Start Facility about the benefits of the building and green building in general. This project presents a unique opportunity for an artist to design the “green” educational components, which will not only contribute to LEED certification points, but will add artistic dimension to throughout the facility. Artists will be challenged to create an artwork that will challenge children (ages pre-K) to think holistically and critically about green building, global environment and creating a sustainable future. The work should empower children to take small steps that can have a big collective impact on our environment, as well as reference “green” methods used in the building the CAHSD facility.

Professional visual artists that demonstrate innovative, contemporary and creative approaches in addressing permanent, site specific works are encouraged to apply. The strength of the artist’s concept, design capabilities and established track record of museum/gallery exhibitions are the program’s highest priorities. Artworks commissioned by the Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places Trust should add value to Miami-Dade County’s public art collection, attract national attention, vitalize our County’s visual signature, celebrate the diversity and heritage of Miami-Dade County, strengthen economic development and tourism, heighten civic identity, and enrich the spirit and pride of our citizens.

Miami-Dade employees, as well as selection panelists and panelists’ immediate family members, are excluded from participation in this public art project.

ESTIMATED ART BUDGET: $70,000
The artist is responsible for fully developing an artwork within the allocated budget which must be inclusive of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and any other cost associated with the implementation of the art project.
