From Independent Collectors: You may not have heard about us

Not sure about this, but it looks interesting if you are a collector of contemporary art. Received this the other day from the ArtNexus list.

You may not have heard about us: Independent Collectors
Hi, we’re collecting collectors …

Independent Collectors is an online platform specifically designed for collectors of contemporary art. It is a protected, non-commercial space for collectors to find likeminded people from all over the world, to exchange information, share insights, to arrange meetings at fairs, to discuss the market or to upload and present their private collections.

Are collectors really willing to share?
The platform was launched in June 2008, despite the rumour that collectors didn’t want to talk to each other. Within just over one year, we count 1,832 collectors of contemporary art from 67 nations who are presenting 5,746 artworks in 594 private exhibitions, which probably makes Independent Collectors the biggest online exhibition of private contemporary art collections on the internet. The current featured exhibition for example is a selection of minimalist and conceptual art from the 60’s and 70’s, presented by the American collector Michael Lowe.

Why Independent Collectors? Independent from what?
Up to now galleries, museums, auction houses, biennials, curators and art magazines have been considered as the ‘supply side’ of the art market. They have been playing a major role in defining trends, controlling most art transactions. This is currently changing.

Independent Collectors connects the “autonomous multitude” – collectors who often don’t feel like they’re organized players. We want to make it easier for collectors worldwide to find likeminded people, share opinions, set trends and make their voices heard.

Press Release for the launch of ArtBump.com – Tuesday, August 4, 2009

A new website has been launched which taps the wisdom of crowds to discover, share, and promote (bump) the best art from across the web. The site functions like Digg.com but is curated to feature only stories related to art with emphasis on artists and their work.

The process is simple. Users first setup a member account on ArtBump.com and then proceed to vote on stories that have already been submitted by other members as well as submit their own art-related stories. And since the site is a work in progress, users can suggest new categories to the webmaster if they feel the current set of categories is lacking. There are also a number of social web features such as adding friends, creating groups of like-minded art appreciators, sharing stories through your Facebook and Twitter accounts, and more.

The vision for the site is to become a website that will blow you away on any given day with the most amazing artistic content and stories from across the web. One day, you might be amazed by a photographer in China, and the next you will be touched by a dance troop in Russia or a music video out of Brazil. By tapping the wisdom of crowds, ArtBump hopes to discover, share, and promote the best art and artists from across the web and from across the world.

Please visit ArtBump.com, setup an account, and start sharing and bumping stories. It’s easy and it’s good for the creative soul.
